We are a design studio experimenting with very divers textile techniques, focusing on designs which elevate textile beyond the traditional applications. It's all about the material we work with. In co-creation with architects, we design the ultimate application of the textile with the aim of raising the project to unprecedented levels of quality.
Petra Vonk: “I use the textile experiments to intervene or add to space whether or not it has an acoustic or privacy function. So for me it’s not just about a “pretty accessory” it also has to perform a solid function.

OBJECT Rotterdam februari 2025 presentation: Aleksandra Gaca & Studio Petra Vonk. My new designs BRAKKA & CADENCE on show.
CADENCEIn this new acoustic panel design, wool felt elements are connected with bamboo rods. The interaction between the different material layers creates a dynamic visual effect that continues to surprise from every angle. Cadence is available in wool felt and in circular needle felt made from upcycled discarded clothing by I-did.
An experiment with wool felt to craft mesmerizing repetitive 3D patterns.
Experimenting with textiles using braiding, flipping, or sewing to create unexpected designs. Manipulating textures and forms can transform simple fabrics into bold, creative constructions. I push boundaries of the materials I work with and let the process surprise me with dynamic results!
ACOUSTIC PANEL BRAKKAOur latest design has a structure created by weaving with wooden sticks. The wood provides strength and a relief pattern in the felt surface. The result is an intriguing repetition of loops with an ever-changing transparency, depending on where you are as the spectator.
DUTCH WOOLBecause we believe that sustainable processing and production of wool in the Netherlands is possible Plectere has teamed up with The Knitwit Stable. They collect the Dutch wool we need for our felt. Plectere is therefore now also available in 100% Dutch wool. Our approach is clear with the shortest possible chain, in which a fair price applies to everyone.
RE_PLAYWhat do you do with the leftover felt strips from the production of Plectere? The game of playing with transparency in this thick wool felt material resulted in a graceful pattern. A new acoustic element in which the strips are sewed in large and smaller curves, flipping them to one or both sides, and with that making a new visual structure. In ecru or colour, depending on what's left… so nothing of the beautiful wool material is lost. Re-Play!
KNITTED FACADEIn co-design with the architect, we developed the idea for a lace facade. The knitted pattern design panels were incorporated into translucent RAFICLAD composite panels.
KNIT PRINTFor application in hospitality it is sometimes better to translate lace knit into a print. By using digital print technology, a beautiful materialization can be displayed on a curtain, cushion or wall panel. The tactile feel of the knitted material is preserved in this way, but the fabric is not so fragile.

PLECTERE VARIATIONSThe acoustics in the entrance hall of the state-of-the-art new headquarters of Vanderlande had to be improved. By using an absorbing material for a new design window covering and to place is with a cavity to the glass, many sound waves could be absorbed. The result was surprisingly good. Studio Petra Vonk created a variation on PLECTERE.

EXPERIMENTSThe traditional craft of braiding is a wonderful way to use thread as a constructive material. By combining two techniques, knitting and braiding, a new way of handling rotan is achieved.
KNIT PRINTLace knit is not always suitable for every interior. The tactile feel of the knitted material is preserved in this way, but the fabric is not so fragile. Very suitable for the lace room in the Modez hotel in Arnhem.
PLECTERE This panel not only transform office spaces by introducing texture and warmth, it also significantly reduces ambient noise with its excellent acoustic properties.

6-7-8 March we will be at Material Distirct with our latest design Brakka. We have started a collaboration with Fibershed and are presenting at their stand. Our Brakka panel can be seen on all trade fair days. Petra Vonk herself will be present all day on Thursday, March 7, to explain her work to you.

Exposition GLUE Amsterdam 14/9-17/9. The installation "Building with Textiles" at Glue is a still life of large-format knitting structures and focuses on composition and transparency. The various works together form a collage-like landscape in which the unique properties of the wool felt material contribute to the creation of the tactile still life.
